About Dr. Smoak

Dr. Sullivan "Sully" Smoak is an ophthalmologist at Tennessee Eye Care, seeing patients across our Lenoir City, Knoxville, Morristown, Harriman, and Powell offices. He provides medical and surgical care for a broad range of eye conditions and works closely with our optometric team to coordinate long-term treatment.

Dr. Smoak completed his ophthalmology residency at the Hamilton Eye Institute at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he received advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of eye conditions. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine and his Bachelor of Arts in Honors German from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduating summa cum laude. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in recognition of his academic achievement.

His research background includes ophthalmic studies focused on retinal ischemia and sickle cell eye disease, and he has presented his work at national and institutional forums. Dr. Smoak has also served as an active member of the Mid-South Lions Club, participating in community initiatives that provide eye care and cataract surgery to patients in need.

Outside the office, Dr. Smoak enjoys hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and spending time with family and friends.
